«The Voiceless» is an artistic collaboration between the visual artist Marte Lill Somby and the artist photographer Jukke Rosing. The themes of this project are around a crisis of identity, the search for answers and the need to be accepted. This project is about the loss of ones mother and father tongues.

Who makes the decision about who you are, and to whom you belong?
When are you accepted and when are not?
Who sets the rules and who accepts them? These were some of the questions that formed the basis of this project.

The project has been visualised through photography and both artists come with their own message about who they are and how they see each other. Marte and Jukke have been working together since 2017, with this collaboration across countires, land, cultures and identity. With a common understanding, «The Voiceless», is a project about reindeer hurding in two different countries.

The two artists have both been met by resistance from their own cultures, especially since they don´t speak the indigenous languages of their tribes. Both are descendants of reindeer hurding families, but neither has grown up in the reindeer hurding culture. They have both fallen between many gaps.

Through their visual art they wish to identify the power og language and its value, and at the same time tell the little known story of sami reindeer hurding in Greenland. An important part of this collaboration was to increase geenral knowledge about Greenland and Sápmi. They wanted to look at similarities, and gain a greater understanding of each other, and through this new knowledge place their own identity as Sami and Greenlander, and as indigenous females.

Identity is reflected through culture, clothing, language, food, and common interests. Together they hope to become a voice for «The Voiceless», and create a visual image on their own vulnerability.

This touring exhibition will visit 3 different countries. The artists hope that it can contribute to increased awareness and understanding about what it is to be «Voiceless», to be part of something, yet an outsider.
