The history about the partisans of the north has long been part of the hidden history, about the 2nd World War in Northern Norway. Most of the attention and focus has been on the resistance fighting in the occupied southern parts of Norway, while the stories about the resistance fighting which took place in the parts of the country where war was actually taking place, and not just occupation, has been silenced. Much of the reason for this is because many of the partisans were communists – who reported to Moscow, and who were trained in Russia instead of in London and the United Kingdom. The work they undertook was very important, but also very dangerous. It was undertaken under duress, and many lost their lives, during the enforcement by the Germans in 1943.

After the war, many of these partisans became victims of surveillance by the Norwegian state, and they did not receive any war medals or honorary achievement medals like other fighters after the war. They first received an official apology for their treatment, by the Norwegian King in 1991, but they have yet to receive a complete redress and honour for the important resistance work they undertook.
