The Northern Fleet Ensemble (RUS) - Nordflåten
Rich dance traditions from the marine corps.
Russia is strongly represented during this years DanceFestival Barents. The Northern Fleet Ensemble is represented by a group of 18 dancers, who will perform dance of a very unique style, unlike anything else in Russia.
The Northern Fleet Ensemble is based in Severomorsk, northeast of Murmansk. Besides of being the presence of the Russian fleet in the North, The Northern Fleet Ensemble offers a lot of culture to the local area. Nodulation has more local cultural activities than the theatre in Murmansk city.
The Northern Fleet Ensemble is not best known for its dance traditions. In August 2000 Kursk, a nuclear submarine, sank and all 118 crew members aboard died. This tragedy touched TV-viewers world wide and manifested in deep compassion for the family members left behind. Today, seven years later, the Northern Fleet still is Russia’s primary base for nuclear submarines. But they know so much more. Few know that The Northern Fleet Ensemble from Severomorsk have an exceptional tradition and high standards of music and dance from the Marine Corps. Together with Stellaris DanceTheatre they bring to you a performance focused on our neighbours in the East.
The dancers of The Northern Fleet Ensemble have travelled world wide with their performance and it’s about time they come visit a neighbour like Hammerfest.
