MAN - man and human. Through seriousness and absurd humor, MAN looks for an inner balance. How much does the individual mean? Today you have the opportunity to meet one of Norway's best dancers and one of Norway's most renowned choreographers.
Both Sølvi Edvardsen and Sudesh Adhana work with a wide range of movements, from a fine-tuned inner language to great physical expression. After 35 years as a choreographer, Sølvi Edvardsen wants to enhance her interest in the individual by making a deep dive into a dance artist.
By challenging each other, Sølvi and Sudesh explore the complexity and diversity of life, and mirror being multi-cultural. Sudesh is Indian and in addition to his expertise in Indian dance forms, he studied contemporary dance at Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Sølvi Edvardsen has since she started studying had a special interest in classical Indian dance, which resulted in a mission for the UD in India where Sølvi and Sudesh met.
In close collaboration with the composer Kim Sølve and the group Swarms, alongside light designer Paul Vidar Ramon Sævarang, a process that illustrates working constructively to find inner balance is embraced.

MAN was presented by CODA Oslo International Dance Festival 2015 and Riksteatret. The performance in Hammerfest is supported by Fond for utøvende kunstnere.
Sølvi Edvardsen is one of Norway's leading choreographers and debuted in Collage Dance Company in 1980. She has choreographed for the National Ballet, Carte Blanche, Oslo Dance Ensemble, TV, several theatres and the Bergen International Festival. She has also done many commissioned works and large individual projects in addition to her own full-length productions. Edvardsen was the first choreographer to receive the Critic Prize for Kimen in 1984 and has since received several awards for her work.
Sudesh Adhana was born and raised in Faridabad, India. He has his artistic education in contemporary dance from Oslo National Academy of the Arts. He also has education in Indian traditional dance - within the styles of Chhau and Kathakali. It was as a performer in the project Beyond Borders (2002), which Sølvi Edvardsen created in India that brought him to Norway. Adhana is currently working as a freelance dancer and choreographer based in Eina, Norway. There he, along with choreographer and dancer Ella Fiskum, has built up the platform R.E.D. - Residency Eina Danz.Adhana is an established performer in Norway, and creates his own works with the non-commercial company Xproarts (established in 2007). In addition, he is still in touch with the Indian dance community, and was awarded the award for best choreography in the National Film Prize Award in 2014 - for his choreography for the song Bismil in the Bollywood film Haider, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Sudesh Adhana was dance ambassador for International Dance Days in 2016.
