Mirte Bogaert
Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November, 10:00-11:30, Martha Andersensalen, Arktisk kultursenter
In this workshop I invite the participants to take part in researching movement material, based on the idea that the movements produced, are like a spoken language. Through tasks for improvisation, we will search for a movement material that can remind of a language: clear in its quality as well as working with integrating gaze, breath and movement. Based on the idea that the body contains memories in each cell, we explore the possibility to tell a story through movements, though not directly related to the meaning of words or signs. This workshop is a creative exploration into once’s own movement possibilities, based on methods Mirte applied in her own explorations, which were shown as a work-in-progress showing Solowork – forever working title during Oktoberdans 2020.
Mirte Bogaert is a Belgian dance artist, based in Bergen, Norway. She graduated from Høyskolen for Dansekunst in 2014, and finished her studies at Research Studios 2017-2018 at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels.
Mirte develops performing arts projects where she employs different strategies to integrate body, movement, sound, light and text with each other. Thereby she aims to question existing hierarchies and conventions in the theatre. Through her interest in sound and language, she explores possibilities for dance creation through methods of translation and observations related to speaking and breathing. She is interested in the relation between language and body, as well as translation as a source for developing new understandings through misunderstanding.
Recently she premiered Letter Project: A choreography at BIT Teatergarasjen, which was an analogue textual performing arts project, exploring what performing arts means outside the frame of the theatre building. During Oktoberdans 2020, she presents her movement material Solowork – forever working title. As well is she currently taking part in the mentor program Ung Komponist of Borealis festival and working as a dancer for Andrea Spreafico (NO) and Mithkal Alzghair (FR).

Ingrid Berger Myhre
Sunday 8 November, 10:00-11:30, Martha Andersensalen, Arktisk kultursenter
What do we see when we look at dance? If dance is a type of language, how does it speak? In this class we will move through a series of scores related to two things: dancing and seeing. We will do this either all together or in smaller groups and will alternate between moving, writing and dancing. Our activities might resemble games more than exercises. We will also find time to reflect together : Can a dance be anything ? And what conditions the way we ‘read’ these dances?
Ingrid Berger Myhre is a Norwegian dance artist based in Brussels. She attended Research Studio’s at P.A.R.T.S in ’17 -’18, has previously studied Modern Theater Dance at the Amsterdam Academy of the Arts and holds an MA Choreography; research and performance from ex.e.r.ce at the Center Chorégraphique National de Montpellier. Language, dance and the meeting points between the two are central to her artistic work. Among other things, she has made the performances BLANKS (2017) and PANFLUTES AND PAPERWORK (2019), both of which are touring internationally as part of the Aerowaves network. Her next production IN OTHER WORDS, which should have premiered in the spring of 2020 at the Spring Festival Utrecht, has been postponed until 2021 and continues the study of how we read - rather than simply watch - dance.
