When Boys Cry is a dance performance about when boys are victims of rape, and is based on the dancer's own story. The performance was not originally intended to be shown to the open stage, but was his way of communicating to his family what happened on the day that would change his life. But art finds its own way, and since 2016 When Boys Cry has been shown in collaboration with a church, Lofoten Kulturhus, World Mental Health Day, den Kulturelle skolesekken, Platform Nord - festival for young Nordic contemporary art. In 2019, the performance was shown as a home edition for the first time. Home edition is a concept where stage lighting and theatre houses are replaced with private homes.

When Boys Cry is described by critics as brutally honest and takes the audience back in time to seconds, days and years afterwards. A strong story about a young boy's fight against the perpetrator's brutal iron grip, conveyed through an adult man's body.

About Thomas Voll
Thomas grew up in Øksnes in Vesterålen and is educated at the School of for new dance (Skolen for samtidsdans) in Oslo. He works as a freelance dance artist and choreographer under the artist name Thomas of Norway and has produced his own productions since 2010.

"As a creative artist, I'm fascinated by the things we avoid talking about, or simply do not like to talk about. Taboos for example. I am inspired by society's collective silence and how we look at each other, and how we value our individual and common existence. The language of movement is often detailed and brutal, and I think it is exciting to challenge both the performers physique, and the energy between the performer and the observer».
