LIMINARIA

NORA SVENNING AND SUDESH ADHANA

Friday 7 November 18:00. Ole Olsensalen, Arktisk kultursenter.

In an almost empty room, four strangely similar beings meet – for a performance inspired by the psychological thriller. They resemble humans, and it is a journey through humanity that they take us on, through different stages and images of the terrible, the ugly, the cruel – and perhaps something beautiful.

Dance meets horror film
Liminaria means thresholds, the places in between, transitions, and the performance is inspired by the horror film and its ability to touch the best and worst in us. The characters resemble each other, but make different choices and fill different roles – protagonists and antagonists, victims and monsters – without it always being easy to determine who is who. The closed space they move in echoes the definitions we humans create for ourselves and try to navigate. Like us, they get lost and get stuck – in the fear of the unknown, of change, of what we deep down know but don’t want to know.

Twisting the recognizable
The duo Sudesh Adhana and Nora Svenning work on twisting and shaking engaging and recognizable situations – to create a stepping stone into the unknown.

They believe that the horror genre has great potential in the face of dance – as dance is a wordless and bodily expression, fear is such a fundamental emotion for humans that it has been with us long before we had language. Moreover, horror, like dance, requires exquisite timing and careful construction to function.

In Liminaria, it is not in the direction of the horror subgenres splatter/slasher/gore, with the use of blood, gore and shock effects, but towards suspense, the psychological thriller.

The performance is therefore also suitable for an audience that has not necessarily seen much dance, but is interested in the horror genre.
