PRODA: Contemporary with Vasiliki Papapostolou
Saturday 19 September 9:00-10:30 Martha Andersen salen, Arktisk kultursenter.

Tracing & Threading: Shaping Space in Motion This dance class focuses on how movement travels through the body and extends into space. Through the concepts of tracing and threading, participants will explore lines, pathways, and connections that shape dancing in both subtle and dynamic ways. Beginning with articulation, the class develops into guided improvisation, in which participants are invited to use the concepts of tracing and threading to explore and expand their own creative movement expression.

ABOUT VASILIKI:
Vasiliki Papapostolou aka Tarantism is an international experimental dance artist originally from Greece. She holds a BA in Contemporary Dance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London and an MA in Education with Distinction from King’s College London. She is particularly interested in the moment when surveillance is no longer externally imposed but becomes physiologically internalised, when the body regulates and corrects itself without being asked to. Her choreography blends intricate physicality and layered storytelling, examining how subtle and overt mechanisms of control shape the human experience. Her work invites audiences to reflect on the forces that shape our identities and interactions, from social norms to unconscious biases.

PRODA: Skinner Releasing Technique with Titta Court
Sunday 20 September, 9:00–10:00, Martha Andersen salen, Arktisk kultursenter

Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) is a pioneering approach to dance, movement and creative processes developed by Joan Skinner. The method grew from a simple principle: when the body releases tension and habitual holding patterns, something new can emerge.

In SRT classes, spontaneous movement is evoked through guided poetic imagery, supported by music and sound. This offers a creative and accessible exploration of technical movement principles. Alignment and the organisation of the body are approached in multidimensional and dynamic ways. The classes are designed to support each individual’s process of moving as effortlessly and efficiently as possible.

Specificity and articulation of movement are enhanced. Awareness is developed through working with the principles of Releasing individually, through hands-on partner work, and as part of the group.
The pedagogy of SRT is both structured and experiential. Learning takes place through carefully designed classes that spiral progressively deeper rather than building sequentially. Participants are invited to revisit core principles with increasing awareness. Each return allows the body to soften habitual holding patterns and discover greater ease, subtlety and sophistication in movement.
SRT can be beneficial for professional dancers, actors, musicians and artists working across different disciplines, for people recovering from injury, and for anyone interested in movement and creativity, regardless of previous experience.

More information about the technique can be found at www.skinnerreleasing.com and www.skinnerreleasingnetwork.org.

ABOUT TITTA
I am a dance artist from Northern Finland, working in diverse roles as a dancer, choreographer, teacher, producer and mentor. My artistic practice focuses on the interaction between place, situation, audience, collaboration and improvisation. My practice is rooted in somatic approaches, particularly Skinner Releasing Technique. This somatic approach to creativity and movement has deeply shaped the development of my artistic practice. For many years, I have also incorporated elements of community-based art into my artistic work, bringing dance into people’s everyday lives and into the spaces where they naturally spend their time and carry out their daily activities. I have created and produced works for a wide range of environments, including public spaces, factories, hospitals, private homes and nature, as well as stages and event venues across Finland, the North Calotte and beyond. My work is guided by the possibilities of immediacy, gentleness, sustainability and agency. I have been a certified teacher of Skinner Releasing Technique since 2011.

Following the class, Titta will lead a seminar on TRE – Tension & Trauma Release Technique from 10:15–13:00 in the same venue. More information here: TRE – Tension & Trauma Release Technique.
The seminar will be repeated on Monday 21 September from 18:00–21:00 at the Stellaris DansTeater studio, Mylingen 6.
