MEET FESTIVAL PROFILE 2024 - RIIKKA KOSOLA

Riikka Kosola will present her film "Syrjässä, sylissä - Hidden Rhythms" (information below) and talk about the performance "Ryppäitä! - La Grappe!", which will be coming to the festival in 2025. "Ryppäitä! - La Grappe!" is a feminist performance that is build on intersectional values having important intergenerational aspects to it. She will talk about her work as a dance artist and her processes in creating her art.
She visits DanseFestival Barents 2024 with two different works (information below). The level of ingenuity and adaption Riikka`s work presents, offers a new perspective and several entering points into the art forms she presents, with and physical quality that we believe with intrigue our audience.

Riikka Johanna Kosola is a Norway-based Finnish-French artist. As a dancer, choreographer and performer she creates multidisciplinary projects with spatial thinking.
With the support of the Art Council of Finland and the Dance Center of Western Finland, Riikka has created works in situ and on stage (Kana - La Poule, Saari ajan rajalla, XXYZ, Ryppäitä! - La grappe) and is otherwise also highly involved in the current field of dance in Finland.
Creating an educational program of dance to Tana Cultural Center in Northern Norway, Riikka leads the local Culture School and collaborates with local Sámi artists in Northern Sámi border area.
She obtained her Master's degree in Choreographic Art from France (CNSMD de Lyon in 2007 and CCN de Rillieux-la-Pape / Maguy Marin in 2008) and Bachelor thesis of Culture Anthropology in Lyon 2 University in 2008. Riikka has also studied Mathematics, Political Science and Art History in Helsinki University since 2002.
